NATIONAL DAY OF CATALONIA

Friday Claudia did the on/off bus on the blue line (northern area of the city) and I did my wandering. Today (9/11) is a national holiday here in this region.

The National Day of Catalonia is a day-long festival in Catalonia. It commemorates the defeat of Catalonia during the War of the Spanish Succession. The Catalan troops that initially fought in support of the Habsburg dynasty's claim to the Spanish throne were finally defeated at the Siege of Barcelona by the army of the Borbon king Philip V of Spain on 11 September 1714 after 14 months of siege. As well as being la Diada – the Catalan national day – it also marks the beginning of the campaign for the upcoming local elections.

Lots of people carrying or wearing flags – trust me, the tourist population got into this celebration. They were chanting, whooping and hollering right with the natives.

For those readers who think this is vaguely familiar, this is the Arizona state flag.

Two in need with their faithful friends.

Your architecture for the day.

Other sights that caught my eye.
